Old Navy Gulfport - GULFPORT, Miss. () - A 15-year-old boy was taken to a local hospital after an officer-involved shooting in Gulfport on Thursday.
Around 2:30 p.m., Gulfport PD received a report of a car with multiple occupants pointing a gun at the drivers. An officer stopped the vehicle at the Family Dollar at the corner of 8th Avenue and Pass Road and the occupants fled.

According to news reports, the officer then confronted the armed suspect and shots were fired. A 15-year-old girl was taken to a local hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound, while another man was arrested after a foot chase. All the suspects involved in the case are currently in custody and several firearms have been recovered.

The victim's mother, Katrina Mateen, spoke with our New Orleans sister station Thursday night. He says there may be more to the story and the public is now demanding answers.
"He came out of the dollar store with his hands up and they shot him in the head," Mateen said. "And I hear that he saw them ... He was in the car and he saw the police coming with guns drawn and he got out of the car and tried to run to the store - and they shot him in the head. The video, who I saw on Facebook is basically that guy. My son said he didn't do anything. He had his hands up, so why was he shot?"

This information has not yet been confirmed. The case is currently being handled by the Mississippi State Bureau of Investigation, which is standard procedure for all officer-involved shootings. Also, according to the standard procedure, the employee who committed the incident had to be forced to comply until the results of the investigation.
Many questions related to the incident can be answered with body cam and dashcam video. However, Gulfport Police Chief Adam Cooper said he does not know when the public will be able to view the footage while the MBI investigates.
"It's up to them. They usually don't release video while the investigation is ongoing," Chief Cooper said. "So the investigation is in its early stages and we'll go from there, but they won't release it until they're ready to release it."
"I really want to know what happened," resident Annie Lee said. "I mean, we have a right to know what happened. It's like... This person says this, this person says this. City Manager Clay Jones said the new addition reflects the success of the Walk. He attributes much of that success to its proximity to I-10 and I-110, which attracts retailers.
